Dr. Sun was forced out of Hong Kong by the British colonial government under the pressure of the Qing Dynasty because of his leading role in the Chinese revolution. Since then, on his way back to the mainland many times, he could only meet his friends and supporters aboard a boat at the present location of Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park. The park is named after Dr. Sun as a result. It is also the first park in Hong Kong to name after Dr. Sun to commemorate his contribution as the father of modern China.
